Many authors are inspired to write a story by a photograph, picture or painting. Their imagination is inspired bypictures.jpg
what they see or what they believe is happening, or happened, in the picture. On the right of this page are nine drawings that I found on ThinkQuest.org. Your assignment is to pick one of these drawings and write a story about it. Remember to be creative with your writing. Your story should flow with a beginning, middle and ending. Use adjectives and your five senses to make your story come to life. THINK LIKE AN AUTHOR! After someone reads your story they should be able to pick the drawing you based your story on.

Here is example of what your story should look like (it's only the beginning):
It was a warm, Halloween night with the stars shining bright like flash lights in the sky. I was trick or treating with my friend Sarah, the awesome airline pilot, when all of a sudden we spotted a silver disc in the sky. I said it was a space ship with Martians looking for some candy. Sarah said it was a falling star...

If you guessed that I wrote about the drawing of the space ship, you would be right!

So, to review, your assignment is to pick a drawing and think about how you will write your story. Using paper and pencil write your draft, read it and make corrections. Check your spelling and grammar and when your story is ready to post, go to your group page and use the discussion feature to post your story. The second part of this assignment is to read the other stories in your group and respond by identifying what picture he/she wrote about and of course write positive comments about the story!
